BPM Beauty and The Beats Female DJ ContestFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMedia contact: Amanda Gruder Rothman/Henry Eshelman ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK LAUNCHES Los Angeles, CA November XX, 2004 -- Who says DJ’s are not ROCKSTARS? In a bold move to find the Rockstars of tomorrow, ROCKSTAR Energy Drink has launched a nationwide search to select the country’s best up-and-coming female DJ with its inaugural ROCKSTAR “Beauty and the Beats” Award. The award promises fame and fortune—well, fame, for the most part—to the skillful and lucky woman who most impresses a panel of celebrity judges including DJs Colette, Rap and Reid Speed at a spin-off event in Los Angeles in February co-hosted by BPM magazine. Here’s how it works: Eligible females 21 and over send in a DJ mix on CD representing their style and chosen genre (house, trance, progressive, breaks, drum and bass, broken beat/downtempo). BPM magazine editors and DJs Colette, Rap and Reid Speed will make the first round of selections narrowing the field to three finalists. ROCKSTAR will fly the three finalists to Los Angeles for a live spin-off before the DJs Colette, Rap and Reid Speed to determine the overall winner who will be feted with a splashy announcement in BPM and a showcase performance during the 20th annual Winter Music Conference in Miami. From there, she will go on tour with the celebrity judges as a headliner in June in twelve major markets. Finally, the winner will receive a prize package of DJ equipment from Stanton and a contract with a DJ booking agency. This is ROCKSTAR’s first-ever event program. “Since we’ve launched the brand, we’ve looked to support music in a fresh new way,” says CEO Russ Weiner. “While we love Rockstars in all musical genres worldwide (the brand boasts celebrity fans ranging from Kid Rock to Outkast), the Beauty and the Beats Program is both a way to honor those women moving up in the DJ ranks and to stake a claim to dance music.” The Beauty and Beats Award celebrity judge DJs cover the full range of dance music genres and styles. From the age of 15, Colorado native DJ Reid Speed has always loved and still plays drum & bass, but has produced tracks, writes reviews and remains one of New York’s finest DJs. The UK’s actor, songwriter and artist Charissa Saverio, aka DJ Rap, also has her own label, and wants everyone to know “I’ve never been on Friendster.” Singing freestyle over beats since the age of 17, Chicago’s DJ Collette’s silky mezzo-soprano voice makes for a mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind blend of vocal performance and DJ’ing. BPM publisher David Ireland said, "All of us at BPM are extremely excited about the opportunity to provide this platform for emerging talent. The time has come to focus some attention on all of the talented young women out there that have dedicated their life to rocking dance floors. This program will hopefully be the start of something that will last for years to come and break a DJ or two along the way."
